Student Satellites
and Satellite Technology... Where are We Heading To…
Satellite
technology in India has taken a new avatar, where unlike the fight for space by
different nations in the past during the cold-war era, today it has become initiative
overlooked by top scientist but designed and developed by students from
different universities and institutes with expert advice from space veterans.
The
first launch of student satellite initiated by Anna University “ANUSAT” in the
year 2009, a desire has engulfed among students to develop / build their own
satellites.
Today, there are
several organizations and educational institutions/ universities funding such
space programmes. To motivate younger generation and develop better technology,
the Indian Government has also been funding such projects. Some of the
satellite initiatives that has inspired the nation are SRMSAT, PRATHAM from IITB, STUDSAT, SEDS-VIT Student Satellite Project
and so on.
Similarly,
to motivate student’s initiative and to develop the nation in satellite technology
the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has been offering free launches
for Indian Student Satellites. The government and other private agencies have
been empowering and enabling students to have a real-time experience and
exposure on satellite technology.
